Hex Crawl 23 #13: Scarp Village Ruin

One hex southeast, one hex south of Alakran.

Like Alakran, this village has a water source that springs from the adjacent spur of the Scarp, with fields, gardens, water storage, and irrigation to feed a hundred souls. Unlike Alakran, the village is empty, the barley and muskmelons in the field grow wild among weeds, and the sands of the nearby desert drift between the houses.

What happened here?

Look in the houses. In eight of them stand white marble statues of village men, carved with breathtaking realism, not least the expressions of lechery, rage, surprise, or horror on their faces.

In a ninth, a statue of a young woman crouches, looking up, mouth agape. Around this one are strewn garlands of desert flowers; fresh in the rainy season and the spring that follows, withered in the dry summer and autumn.

You may think you know what happened here. But the truth lies further out in the desert. Go on, nobody has taken the few coins and trinkets that were the villager's wealth; your first hour of searching will turn up d100 gp and each hour after that, d20 gp, until a 1, 20, or 13 is rolled.
