Interlude: Encounter and Overview Maps of Shasari

For use with my encounter system, here is a 5 mile map of the hexes detailed over the preceding months, leading northward from the Nathrak site.

Hex numbers: The southern tier is a little chaotic, and there is one hex (of giant sheep, it seems) that I completely forgot to number! After that the hexes proceed more or less in boustrophedon order horthwest and southeast, and if there is a series of consecutive numbers in a straight line, only the start and end hexes are numbered.

Encounter codes: As described, where the letter is time of activity (night, day, any) and the number is the range of hexes away they can be encountered. For tilled areas (with a version of the crosshatcing icon) encounters with their inhabitants have the code D1, and the same goes for stand-alone villages in non-tilled areas.

Ignore any encounters coming from across the Scarp except for the dragon Shabana. Encounters located from the blank hexes in the southeast are detailed in hex #154 and from the north, in hex #183. A brief d6 table of encounters coming from the northeast blank hexes follows.

1. N1: Raiding party of 5d6 dust goblins led by a big-headed goblin fever-sorcerer (level 4)

2. N2: Scouting patrol of 2d6 dust goblins.

3. A1, only if party is moving: Pit trap with nasty spikes set by hill villagers for dust goblins.

4. D1: 2d6 hill village soldiers led by two level 2 fighters and a level 6 ranger, tracking a pack of goblins.

5. D2: Emissary from the Dragon Queen in Dulshamar (evil cleric-12 and a retinue of 8 dragon-born fighters level 3), with an ultimatum: Shasari must render tribute or be attacked!

6. A2: Griffon wounded and driven made by a green dragon-poisoned arrow in its flank

For reference, here is the whole source map of 1 mile subhexes, including both the 6 hex area around Alakran and the Shasari area. Full size map is here (3.6 MB).

  1. Looks great! Do you have a bigger version of the overall map with the one mile hexes?

    1. Sorry, it turns out Blogsport lost function and you can't click to enlarge like you used to. I put a slightly larger version up and will link soon to a full size one.
